The Neighborhood Corporation is
proud to be partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to support a complete
and accurate 2010 Census. Full participation by all members of the
Greater Taunton community is necessary to ensure that our voices are
heard in Congress and that our neighborhoods get their fair share of
federal funding.
The Census: A Snapshot
The census is a count of everyone
residing in the United States. All U.S. residents must be counted—both
citizens and non-citizens. The U.S. Constitution requires a national
census once every 10 years to count the population and determine the
number of seats each state will have in the House of Representatives.
A Complete Count: The
Importance of Census Data
Every year, the federal
government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities
based, in part, on census data. Census data are used to determine
locations for schools, hospitals, new housing developments and other
community facilities. Census data determine boundaries for state and
local legislative and congressional districts.
2010 Census Questionnaire:
Easy, Important and Safe
The census questionnaire takes
about 10 minutes to complete. Households are asked to provide key
demographic information, including: whether a housing unit is rented or
owned; the address of the residence; and the names, genders, ages and
races of others living in the household. By law, the Census Bureau
cannot share your responses with anyone, including other federal
agencies and law enforcement entities.

The Census aims to count all U.S. residents—citizens and non-citizens
alike. To do so, the Census Bureau:
1.
Delivers a short, 10-question form to every household in America.
2.
Requires that you fill in the form to account for everyone living at
your address as of April 1, 2010.
3.
Includes a prepaid envelope for you to mail back the form.
A census taker follows up in person with addresses that don't mail back
the form in order to obtain responses.
